‘Policeman framed me for robbery for denying him sex for bail’ – Nigerian lady tells Lagos court

A 27-year-old trader, Mrs. Victoria Amodu, yesterday told an Ikeja High Court, Lagos that an Investigative Police Officer (IPO) at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja Division, demanded sex from her to release her from custody. Amodu, a mother of four, gave the testimony as a defence witness in her trial for alleged conspiracy and armed robbery, before Justice Kudirat Jose. The defendant, who denied the allegation, was arraigned alongside one Hammed Isiaka on a six-count charge of conspiracy to commit robbery and armed robbery, contrary to Section 295(2)(a) of the Criminal Law No 11 Laws of Lagos State, 2011. One of the charges reads, “Hammed Isiaka, Victoria Amodu and others now at large, on or about August 12, 2014 while armed with a pistol did rob one Elizabeth Moses of a cash sum of N35, 000 and a cheque of N1.4m.” However, while being led in evidence by her counsel, Nelson Onyejaka, Amodu told Justice Jose that she was unjustly arrested by the police on Augu

Tiwa Savage makes the BBC’s 2017 ‘100 Women list’

As reported by The Guardian , Nigerian Diva, Tiwa Savage has made it to the BBC list for this year’s 2017 100 inspirational and influential women. In the list also was Anne-Marie Imafidon. The annual series – which shines a light on important issues affecting women all over the world – this year is encouraging women to make a change. Hindu priests anointed a 3-year-old lass to be worshiped as a ‘living goddess’

According to a report published on PUNCH newspaper, a three-year-old girl was anointed the new Kumari of Kathmandu by Hindu priests on Thursday in a ritual that will see her worshipped as a “living goddess” until she reaches puberty. Wearing a red dress, Trishna Shakya was taken from her home to an ancient palace in the Nepalese capital’s historic Durbar Square where her initiation began with a short ceremony. Afterwards she was carried by her father across the cobbled square — which still bears the scars of a powerful earthquake that hit in 2015 — to the Kumari’s palace where she will live under the care of specially-appointed guardians. Flanked by her family and barefoot men in red tunics, the short walk was the last time the three-year-old will be seen in public without the elaborate makeup of the Kumari until puberty, when she will become a normal girl once again. “I have mixed feelings. My daughter has become the Kumari and it is a good thing. But there is also sadnes
