More Blessings, Ma

Image
I am not an ordained Priest But permit me to pray for you on your day: “May you be blessed, provided that the sun still rises from the east And may you be protected, provided that the sun still rules the day. “May heavens answer when you call And may night never visit on your day; May you walk and never fall And may your handwork give you a huge pay.” Happy birthday and many returns Mrs. Anthonia Ossai. ©Francis Onwuchuruba. Poet/Author of “ It is my business ”- A collection of poems on Nigeria socio-economic and political issues.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SENIOR FELLOW

Lend me your quill And make me famous Not for tomorrow But just for today. Lend me your quill And I will scribe to shake the world Not to cause an earthquake Or make the wind run more than its speed But to make the living and even the dead rejoice. Your story is already viral on earth But today permit me to show her your path After reading your: ‘ Ome Ihe Jide Ofo Afo!’ - A play I concluded to be your apostle, though never told you I surprised you and made you say ‘ waoooo’ When after reading it and remised it into a Verse Drama . You saw my zeal and concurred When I said “ It is my business ”- My collection of poems As you took it as your own business as well To make the world hear my ‘juvenile voice’ That even after my demise, I still live. Knowing you is a blessing to posterity Because my children’s children Will tell our story So on this your day, I pray for you thus: “Your sun will shine and shine and shine Your moon...

Buhari signs to proscribe IPOB

Image
A lot of dusts have been raised over the proscription of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist group by the Nigerian Army since few days ago. Before he departed on Sunday for the 72nd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, where he will be expected to address other world leaders today, President Muhammadu Buhari put pen to paper to accentuate the proscription. This was done to get the heat off the Nigerian Army and to ensure that due process is followed, according to the report gathered by THISDAY.   “In a move to take the heat off the Nigerian Army and ensure that due process is followed, President Muhammadu Buhari has signed a presidential proclamation proscribing the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over the group’s involvement in terrorist activities. “Making this known yesterday, sources in the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation informed THISDAY that the president signed the declaration on Sunday before his dep...

DON’T FORGIVE

Don’t forgive But pray five times daily And sing more than the seraphs After all in heaven singing is the only commandment. Don’t forgive But attend morning masses before the Catechist And even receive the Holy Communion before the Priest After all He said: ‘If you don’t eat my body and drink my blood, you won’t have life in you’. Don’t forgive But give huge offerings And even singlehandedly build the church’s edifice After all when you die your grave would be given a special blessing. Don’t forgive But give to the poor And announce it to the world After all in giving, we receive. Don’t forgive But carry the bible bigger than the Pope’s Lectionary And read all the memory verses After all ‘man shall not live by bread alone but by God’s word’. Don’t forgive But say over your dead body even after his remorse Because he hurt you more than they did to Christ So, Christ will understand and throw only him into the Hades. Don’t f...

WHERE ARE THEY?

WHERE ARE THEY? (The python dance ballyhoo) Where are they? Where are the voices that the globe deifies? Have they lost their tones? Can’t they speak now and quench this fire? What of him that has read all the books on earth Even the ones written by the gods; Can’t he demonstrate the glory of his white hairs? Or has he lost confidence in his quill? But I know it isn’t possible. What of that handsome man blessed with oratory echelon? From where our foods are produced in baskets; The sound of his bucal cavity used to resurrect the dead So can’t he echo his voice again And resurrect this dying national peace? From the area the sun rises regularly The road is forced to drink the blood of her sons Plus tears of the unlucky that puncture her eyes And you tell me that things haven’t fallen apart? Please let Achebe exhume himself, and defend his book now. This is not the time to say “Not my business” Rather a time to say “It is my busines...

LET POSITIVE PEACE REIGN

LET POSITIVE PEACE REIGN Peace is a sweet honey That no beehive produces Only produces from the heart; A heart free from grudges. The more heads roll on the floor The more innocent blood stains the land The more mourners are increased daily The more we give positive peace a hot chase. Beating up a child and tell him not to cry Brings peace but a negative one Or otherwise called ‘peace of the grave yard’ Please allow positive peace to reign. Using war to end war is good But only on the day of Armageddon But since Christ doesn’t even know the date Let’s give room for positive peace. Peace is a gift And we have it in our hands Let’s enter the negotiation room Else the land of the silence will be filled with innocent blood. Respect human blood! Give room for negotiations! Give room for true Democracy! Give room for rule of law! Copyright ©Francis Onwuchuruba 13/09/2017
